June news

hi y'all!

  1. summer in the city
  2. blues in new england
  3. quiet time
  4. love and baseball

I. SUMMER IN THE CITY

The City is a gigantic heat sink. I am saving my pennies for an A/C unit. It is a new and interesting sensation to wake up feeling like a dog that's been locked in a car with the windows up, even with my bedroom windows open all night. However, it is lovely to walk around without a jacket both day and night; enjoying the sensual pleasure of sweat and bare skin more than I ever did back home. oh, and another plus: the humidity and heavy warm air slows down the hectic urban pace a bit.

II. BLUES IN NEW ENGLAND

Memorial Day weekend saw yours truly tagging along with guitarist/singer/songwriter/producer extroardinaire Marc Copely for a driving tour of New England on my first visit to that corner of the U.S. I said hello to Worcester, MA, and York Beach, ME. The beach was loooovely! and I enjoyed my first Maine lobster! Yum. Fringe benefit #2: getting to sit in on a song with the James Montgomery Band (www.jamesmontgomery.com), a great blues group featuring Mr. Montgomery on vocals and harmonica, Dave Hull on bass, and Mr. Copely on guitar. These fine gentlemen, along with musician and journalist Chet Williamson, are enlightening me regarding the vibrant blues scene up north. I never knew! I see that I need to explore that part of American culture. Have mercy...I do get to go back up to Massachusetts again this weekend to pick up my next homework assignment from Chet, Marc, James, Dave, and the rest of the gang. Thanks guys!!

III. QUIET TIME

The summer gig schedule is settling down, and I am grateful for it, as my months-long writer's block has subsided. I'm looking forward to getting some of these words and sounds outta my head and my notebooks, and down on some tracks. I'm fortunate to have met some fabulous, more experienced, more accomplished songwriters out here who have invited me to collaborate. Stay tuned for results from those sessions!

IV. LOVE AND BASEBALL

As you may recall, my May newsletter began with an burst of anticipation for my first M's game at Yankee Stadium. That weekend, blessed by blue sky and sunshine, I gleefully watched the boys spank some Yankee ass! They hung on through 13 innings to beat the Yanks 13-7. And, to top it all off, way up above the field, in the bleachers, my boyfriend (this was our first date, how perfect!) congratulated me on the victory with a long, tender, sweet first kiss. Ahhhh...falling in love, I forgot what it was like.

Have a great month, check the web site for gig dates, pics and other updates, and stay cool!

Blessings,
Celia :)
