Weedshare, Telenovela, and Nov. NY news
Greetings from New York City! I hope this note finds everyone well and that autumn is treating you kindly. It's beautiful here, a little rain, but hey, this girl's used to THAT. This weekend it should reach 70 degrees! on the 1st of Nov.! amazing.
This month's news:
- Weedshare.com: Celia makes the Top Ten list!
- Telenovela: jon plus celia equals...
- R&R: Relocation and Recording
Weedshare
I would like to invite all of you to check out this web site where Jon Plum and I have placed three songs that we've worked on together. It's a great concept: file sharing, but after 3 free plays a visitor can purchase a song for ongoing plays, and the artist makes money. AND, if you share the file, and someone else buys it as a result of your passing it on...YOU make a little money too. Check out their home page and FAQs for details. I'm excited about this also because my song "Tease" made #3 on Weedshare's Top 10 Downloads list this week, and I also got a write-up from the staff: "...you don't know it yet, but you HAVE to listen to Celia Chavez's "Aquamarine!" Thank you, Weedshare!
Oh yeah, and right now there's a special where you can receive $5 of downloads to get you started. So please, please, check it out, download "Wishing Well" and "Aquamarine" too, let's see if we can't drive those onto the chart for next week! Here's my page.
Telenovela
Jon Plum and I have decided to come out as a duo, since we will continue to work together even though the continent divides us geographically. I finally convinced him that his quirky, expert production on "Wishing Well", "Tease", "Goodbye", and "Aquamarine" made those songs very distinct and different from the rest of my solo stuff. And so, henceforth we shall be known as "Telenovela", which means "soap opera" in Spanish. Has a nice ring to it. But the translated meaning has no relevance whatsoever to my personal life. Really. ;) no, really!!
R&R
Even getting rid of 80% of my Seattle household could not prepare me for shoehorning my life into a 10 x 12 box in Brooklyn. But it's great! I LOVE being here, the people are great, my roommate is awesome, and I am still gaga over the fact that I can walk into a tiny club and see folks who have rocked my world for years, for...12 bucks. 10 bucks. whatever. just went to see Marc Ribot's trio last night at Tonic for 12 bucks. Crazy. He walked right by me on the way up to the stage and I just about fainted.
Recording more songs with the fabulous Joe Castellon will happen in the coming weeks. My frustration is that I am battling Sesame Street for studio time. Not kidding! I mean, how can I possibly rate against BIG BIRD?! That dude's got clout.
And, to just complete the artiste stereotype, I am so very proud to have secured a job as a server in a small, chic Italian restaurant just yesterday. I might just have to go all Felicity and cut my hair all off...
I also have to say THANKS to my hometown fans who keep writing asking when I'm gigging in NYC, and offering to send your east coast friends out to see me...hold that thought! I'm focusing on the recording right now, and will tackle that next. I'm hoping that by the end of the year or beginning of '04 I'll be slogging it out in the clubs. You'll all hear about it, don't worry!
keep warm, keep dry, keep the faith!
take good care
love
celia
